WALLISTON Safari
"Walliston Safari" is a group of veteran Walliston Wanderer participants and
their friends who continue to return to their much loved Walliston Wanderer stamping grounds in the Murchison Goldfields.
WALLISTON WANDERERS
A camping holiday safari for adults and children of the Walliston Community.
During thirty two years in the early life of the Walliston Primary School, the tradition of "Walliston Wanderers" impacted upon the lives of a total of 800 students and 171 different adults.
BERNARD ARRANTASH
Bernard was a teacher at Walliston Primary School for thirty four years until his retirement in 2005. He fulfilled a long held dream to run his own Murchison safaris like the goldfields camping adventure that he had been lucky enough to enjoy during his own early childhood days. From 1973 until 2005, thirty six Walliston Wanderer Safaris were held. In convoys of parent driven off road vehicles with trailers they travelled and explored by day and camped in a different remote location every night.
BRUCE CAMERON
Bruce is the father of Walliston School students Melissa, Meghan, Kirsten, Justine, Courtenay and Brayden who were all Walliston Wanderers participants. Bruce was an adult participant on all of his children's safaris, and on another ten trips as well. For Bruce, the annual Murchison safaris were eagerly anticipated as a refreshing interlude in a unique and remote environment with its own heritage and beauty. Bruce knew he was going to miss Walliston Wanderers after the last safari in 2005.
JOHN ANDREWS
Veteran Walliston Wanderer John Andrews (22 trips) approached Bruce one day during the last Safari and said "Bruce ...What are we going to do in September when ...Walliston Wanderers is all over ?"... "Go on," Bruce said. Big John replied
"You don't know what it is like to not be in ...the Murchison... in September."
(John had missed a Walliston Wanderers safari in 2002.)
So...
